THE SKINNY
• Get instant text alerts―or in-app GroupMe push notifications (your choice)―about last minute rides in your area.
• Or host your own ride in less than a minute. • You can also check your group's calendar for local rides. • Mute or unmute alerts at any time. You can do this in the app settings, or just text #mute to stop receiving messages from the group. When you’re ready to start receiving texts again, text #unmute. • Everyone who's joined your local group will be alerted when you host a local ride (unless they've muted their alerts). • Use it to announce your own club's rides to the group. • Send friends and riders the bit.ly "invite" link (shown on your location's banner above) to invite them. • We understand sportbike riders have special needs, so we created groups just for them (kalamari anyone?). • A great way to meet local riders. • Your number stays anonymous. • Each group gets a dedicated phone number--we suggest you create a phone contact with the name of your group. |
• Girls and boys who want to experience riding as passengers can host a ride request (we'll be connecting this service with a dating service in the future).
• Use this service to host a mission ride for Biker Quest--a live adventure game for motorcyclists. • Add your friends to the group. Enter the command #add followed by their name and number. Eg: "#add Pat 5551234567" will add the number (555) 123-4567 to the group with the name "Pat". • This is a free service brought to you by Biker Entourage LLC using the third party platform GroupMe. • Don't see a riding group for your city or region? Just ask and we'll start one for you. • Slingshots? Sidecars? Classic bikes? MotoGP racers? Ask us to create a riding group for your moto-tribe's special needs. • NECESSARY COMMS ONLY: You can communicate with other group members about a ride through the app. However, comms not necessary for a ride, douchebag texts, spam, promotional content, naked pictures of your mom or other abuse of this service will get you banned. • You can also send DMs directly to other riders on the app so you don't annoy the shit out of everyone. |
FREE
*Use of this service is free, but as you'd expect your phone provider may charge you whatever you'd normally pay to text or use data (duh). More here.
OUTSIDE THE US?
GroupMe users outside the US can avoid SMS charges by using the app's push notifications--GroupMe currently uses US-based numbers. Every text message sent to or received from a GroupMe number will count as an international text message sent to or received from the United States (so use the push notifications). More here.
YOUR ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND OUR DISCLAIMER
Motorcycling in groups is an inherently dangerous activity, and these rides are spontaneous, unscreened and unsupervised. By participating in a ride you agree to release the creators, administrators and moderators of this service from any liability. Ride at your own risk, follow the law, use common sense, familiarize yourself with riding safety and etiquette, screen the other riders and their rides for potential dangers, and don't ride like a dumbass and/or place yourself or others at risk. Amen.
